I am about to start testing an H&G 81 boolit, which is the plain based 68 for 45acp, except it is for 9mm/38 Super. Its a 130 grain swc.

I have most of the common powders available. What do you like best? I am thinking about trying to find an accurate 1200 fps load. I've had the best luck with 231 and the Lee 125 rnfp so far.

Thanks,

For heavier boolits (147 -158) I had excellent accy and max velocity and stayed in the
pressure limits with W571/HS7. IIRC 7.2 gr was a max pressure "book" load. It worked
great as long as I didn't use WW brass in my unsupported chamber Wilson comp 1911.
I put about 75K thru my Wilson gun before I stopped using .38 Super in IPSC.

I chronoed 124 Horn JHPs at 1400 fps with that same load, so it can work with lighter
bullet/boolits.

The slug is the RCBS 38-162 SWC-GC. Weighed 158grs With lube & GC. If no surplus WC820 on hand use AA#9 (work up to load shown). The Lyman 356637 FNBB is also a real shooter in my Witness 38 Super. Sized .357" weighed 153grs. Using WC820 I was getting rigth at 1250 fps.

I've had extremely good accuracy with Bullseye at the top of its burning range with about that weight of boolit, but it very hard on cases.

Bluedot. for any bullet weight.

Bluedot. for any bullet weight.

Caution, i've had a Bluedot load blow a mag and grips off the gun in sub freezing weather. These loads shot great with NO problems in warmer weather. If you use Bluedot in the Super in subfreezing weather, keep the cartridges warm or you might get the same results.

I used AA7 when I was shooting a Super, but it was a 148gr boolit. Don't remember how much.
