I was thinking about trying Pat's WC297 in the .358 Winchester with 180 to 210 grain boolits, but thought I'd check to see if anyone else has tried this combo before I buy yet another jug of surplus powder to occupy valuable shelf space. My velocity goal is approx. 2000 fps and accuracy must be minute of vegetable muncher.

It probably would work but is not an ideal powder for that application. Ive used 820 in 308s but never got the accuracy ive gotten from 2400 or 4227. 297 like 820 like higher pressures to burn well. If you try it id recomend you at least use a mag primer to light it off. Where 297 really shines is in large caliber mag handgun loads like the 454 475 and 500 linebaugh and even the 44 mag and 45colt (with ruger level loads) It is a powder that burns very close to 110 and shares its advantages and disadvantages.

Lloyd,

Yeah, WC297 might like a heavier boolit. I have found 16 to 16.5 grains of 820 works very well in my 24" 30-30's with RCBS 30-180FN which weighs nearly 200 grains in my alloy (checked weight). According to QuickLoad, this load produces approx. 32K PSI.
