I have a chance to pick up an older S.A. Rossi single shot in .223.
It has a heavy barrel, but is one of the older ones. I was allowed to patch it and it looks like a 1-12 twist.
With a bull barrel, I don't want to be limited to <52gr.

Does anyone know the actual twist of this one?

Thanks

My 1992 vintage Savage M112 in 223 has a 12" twist. It will stabilize a 62gr slug. Shoots cast like a house afire, too!

Most older 223s have a 1 in 12 twist as that was the industry standard. That twist works well with bullets up to 60 gr RN slugs. I mostly shoot 55 gr SPBT bullets in mine that have that twist.

I have one that has a 20 ga. switch barrel and the rifle shoots very well. I bought it for $179 at Acadamy about 6 years ago and was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy level (sub 1" at 100). We take prarie dogs to 350 yds. with it using jacketed loads.

IHMSA, welcome to the forum. I have a ruger 77mk 2 & have found it likes w/w 64 grain jwords. It too has a 1 in 12 twist, but the 64s are short for their lengh. Shoots an honest 1 & 1/4 at a 100 with a 21" lite bbl. Need to get rid of the lawyer proof trigger tho. PITA
