I had a casting session last night and cast up about 200 lyman 311413's. after seeing them laying next to a x54r case I thought "this would be great in my m44". anyone ever load these in a mosin nagant? thanks josh

Likely going to be too small and won't be acurate. HOWEVER - every gun is an thing
unto itself, and it is worth a try. Use them unsized to maximize your chance of making
this work. MANY M44s have bores well above the .310 nominal size. I have seen reports
of .315" and even larger. You may luck out with a tight bore.

Why not slug it and find out beforehand. If you can't put a boolit at least .002 larger than
the bore, odds are very low that you will get good accy. BUT notice I said ODDS. There
are no guarantees either good or bad in this game. Experiment!

311413 generally does poorly when pushed hard. Try 10.0 Unique first and you may get
good results. If not, try 16.0 2400 or 15.0 IMR 4227, depending on what you have on
hand. WIth a good fit to the bore these loads perform very well in my K31 Swiss, but it
has a very tight bore.

Seems I loaded up some of those in my 7.62x54 with Trailboss powder and had fair groups. I sized them to .311 and I think that was to small. You could probably paper patch them up though.

I sluged the bores on all my guns last year, and my notes show my polish m44 at .299-.3105. so it should work in this one. I have a 1947 izzy that slugs at .302-.315 so I know they vary greatly.
