Friend is looking at a Virginia Dragoon in 44 mag. Looks to be in good shape. I remember them as being a West German make, imported by Interarms. Beyond that I only recall they had a good reputation for a while. Anyone have any first hand experience?

I've never owned or even shot one but got to look one over at a gun show a month ago. It seemed to be in good shape until I looked at the top strap. It had the worst case of flame cutting I've ever seen. I don't know if it was shot THAT much or if this was a weakness of that gun. It was a .44 mag.

I never owned one but the reputation in the early 70's was "Hellforstout", especially in the 45 with ruger loads in the same sentence. gianni.

Interarms imported the former, and opened a factory to make the latter. They have a safety of sorts which has the cylinder axis pin stick out to the rear to prevent the hammer from falling.

I have two in .44. They shoot reasonably well. Very strong.

I have two Hammerliis in 45 Colt, SAA copies. Not terribly strong, but exquisitely accurate and tight. ... felix

I had the VA Dragoon in .375 super mag. It was fun to shoot but wasn't very accurate. Might have been the caliber because I had to use WW brass. Never seen such a sorry batch of cases. I had to file the rims on a lot of them to get them to chamber.

I had one once. A 44 mag.
Good handgun, but I needed a 24 bore fusil more.

I have had 2. Both SS 44 mags. They are good shooting and strong guns . But they take a lot of breaking in.
After 500 RDS they are a lot nicer to shoot, as some of the chambers and fireing pins tend to be a bit roughly finished. Mine were made in the USA. ....FWIW...buck

had one too many years ago and it was a good gun.
