View Full Version : Winchester 30/30 problem???
Hi guys,
I need a sight elevator for an older, early 60's, Winchester 94. I've tried a bunch of them so far and it's just not working. I've tried the short (~1 inch) and the long (~ 2 inch) versions in .050 and .080 widths. IIC, I need the longer elevator but it needs to be .065 (max) width. Any help finding one of these would make my Winchester and I very happy. :-D
PS: Anyone need a short elevator in .050 and/or .080 ;-)

Try Gunparts Corp. or Brownells. You may have trouble finding one .065 wide, I would take the .050 and file to suite.

I already tried that but no matter how much I file the dang thing, it doesn't get any thicker... :kidding:

When all else fails, you make one. Lay one out on some 1/16" mild steel stock the cut and file to shape. You may want to case harden it but 1018 steel should work as is. It takes a cold blue well enough to blend in.
I think it's about come to that. I've also been considering swapping the whole sight assembly for something a little friendlier to my somewhat old and decrepit eyes.

Take out the sight and put in one of those dovetail fillers in its place and put a peep sight on it.

peep and small bright bead front with hood is awesome for the targets and rocks.
for hunting remove the little peep insert and just use the ring.
+1 on a peep sight set up for old eyes. Unless you need to retain as original for some collector value, Midway sells a few bolt on peeps. Lyman, Williams are top shelf.

Tried something like that with a piece of rope. Cut it off twice, and it was still too short.
