Hi, folks,
I am starting to play with black powder in a SAA clone (.45 Long Colt), and was wondering if anyone here has used the RCBS 270 gr. SAA mould with BP? I'm wondering if it will carry
enough lube.

Any information, advice, lube preferences, etc. would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
John

That bullet has a ample lube groove if the correct lube is used. Revolver shooting with BP is not the problem if shooting up to a box of 50. The problem is with rifle bbls. I shoot 3 matches a month in CAS and don't have a problem. I would think that you are talking hunting or a few target rounds with that weight bullet. It will give ample recoil with full case of 2F. There are many lube recipes that will work. If you don't make your own, try the BP lube by White Label or SPG or NASA by Bullshop. Make sure your bullet fits your revolver as that will have a lot to do with your success. Later David

This is my favorite bullet for 45 colt. I use SPG for ALL of my cast bullets. I also use this bullet in both of my Freedom Arms 454 Casulls for hunting.

I shoot the rcbs 255kt with blackpowder in handguns and my trapper carbine.
