If there's anyone out there with a Marlin XLR in .35 Remington, would you please provide bore and groove diameters; and, if it's not too much trouble, the number of grooves would be helpful too.

Thanks,
MJ

Runfiverun,

The Marlin XLR is a 336. I think Blammer rebarreled a Marlin XL7 to .35W.

So, Marlin hasn't sold any .35 XLR's to bullet casters yet? I'd buy one but only if I can use current ferrous molds available from SAECO, RCBS and Lyman. Don't really feel like calling Marlin for information because for the longest time, their website indicated the .35 XLR had a 12" twist. I'd believe Brophy before I'd believe a Marlin customer service employee but I don't think Brophy cares anymore. Anybody have his email address?

m.j just measure it yourself with a tight fitting patch and a ruler.
one turn in 12 is well one turn in 12"
if it is the saeco 245 will shoot fine.

runfiverun,

I believe the twist is actually 1:16 (that's what the current Marlin site states) which should be fine for bullets up to and including SAECO 352; however, I'm more concerned with the interior barrel dimensions than anything else. If these barrels are .359"+ in the grooves (like some of the old Ballard rifled barrels) then there are practically no suitable molds currently available from SAECO, RCBS and Lyman. I've purchased most of my .35 cal molds within the last few years and virtually all of them from SAECO and RCBS (I still haven't bought a new 358315) are straining to drop a nice round .359" bullet... even with 800F metal.

you got that right my saeco barely scrapes a 358 die, i can get it a bit tighter with a 4/6 mix but that only duplicates w dropped alloy but without the benefits.
and is a bit more brittle than i want.
i think d.j. is working on doing a flat nosed saeco type duplicate ,and i bet it will be closer to .360
i just sent him some saeco 245's to measure and shoot.

I'd be interested in any mold that drops a .360" bullet as long as its cavities are cut in ferrous blocks and are R-O-U-N-D.

he usually works with old west bullet molds and i know he does good work iirc he does brass and i think he does them in mehanite also.
and in 3 cavity .
