Plummers lead gas driven smelter help!

I got off Ebay a plummer gasoline powered lead smelter. Lots of rust on the pot and lots of dross stuck to the pot walls. Any suggestions on how to get the crud off before i fire the first scrap melt down to make ingots? Or can this be done during the first scrap melt of lead?

CLR > rust. Plug the pot and put in a generous amount of CLR mixed with comet then let it sit for awhile. After its got a good soaked scrub the hell out of it.

Be careful though, CLR will remove bluing from a firearm nearly instantly.
