View Full Version : Have any of you guys played around with H322 for .30-06 150 grain loads?

I suspect this powder might be a tad too fast, but in my experience, it's not that much faster than IMR3031, and that is listed in several manuals for 150 grain bullets.

Has anyone tried this powder in their Garand, or any .30-06 for that matter? If so, did you get any acceptable results? I'm just looking for a light plinking load. Anything in the 2500-2700 fps range is fine.

Thanks.

I thought I would add to this thread that I tried 44.0 grains of H322 and PRVI 145 grain FMJ/BT bullets in my Garand last weekend and they were safe in my rifle.

I'm sure velocity is down from the 4064/4895 class of powder, but I have 10+ lbs of this powder on hand, and it seems to work fine for my plinking loads.

Take care.

Ole,

I recently found a pound of H322 at a gun show for $5! At that price, who could pass it up, right? Anyway, it was old-but-unopened stock. I found load data for my .308s and .223s in my older Hornady manual, but nothing on 30-06. 30-06 and 8mm (8x57) are the largest volume cases I load for. Haven't used it in the .308s yet, but will post results when I do.

Best regards

You are correct, H322 behaves a lot like IMR 3031. I've not used 322 in a bottle-neck case as large as .30-06, but I have used 3031 in 7.62x54R (under a 150 gr J-word bullet) which has a similar case capacity as the '06. Results were excellent after working up using the OCW method.

I've used 322 successfully in the .45-70 and .30-30; however, I've switched to 3031 as it is typically easier to find in stock. If I were to try 322 (or 3031) in the .30-06, I would keep bullet weights at or below 150 gr for best results. Larger bullets want the slower powders.

I have used it in the .30-06 with Lee 312-185 sized .311 in an 03 springfield. I used a starting load of 26 gr. and currently use 28. Shoots good.
