Just took delivery of my "new" M1917 last week. Winchester receiver, but an Eddystone bolt (and a bunch of other "E"-marked parts). Original 1918 barrel in excellent shape, and nice, clear RCAF markings on the buttstock. Too bad she can't talk...

Bought this rifle as a cast bullet shooter, and have a box of Lyman 311466 all made up, sized to .312" and alox-lubed. Now I just need one of you experts out there to whisper your tack-driving load to me using this bullet.

Also have the usual 311284, 311291, 311299 to fool with, too. -- along with a decent assortment of powders.

Retro-fit a P-H 5B rear sight to use working up loads. Will be using some 1962-vintage LC Match brass.

TIA

I use almost a caseful of WC870 or 860 in a 98 Mauser rebarreled to 30-06.

11 grains of Trail Boss is one of my favorite loads for 150 to 165 gran bullets in my 1903A1.

311466 works best in my 1M1917 when I shoot it as cast (.314 on the bottom bands) and only lube the bottom 3 grooves. I seat the gas check and lube it in a .314 lubrisizer. This boolit (design) is very prone to sizing slightly off-center if your top-punch and lube die aren't exactly in line. I find it shoots best at about 1600fps with 16 grains of 2400 or 18 grains of SR4759, or 21 grains of Reloder7 or WC820, or 24 grains of WC680

What curator says is VERY true. All the more reason to use a " nose 1st sizing system " ( like the Lee Push Thru sizers ) for sizing rifle bullets.
