00 Buckshot

Just loaded up some 00 buckshot using Winchester hi brass hulls, roll crimped and using 1 1/2 fiber wads, The classic 9 pellets of buck fit well with this and a roll crimp. I could do 12 pellets but don't see the need right now. I used 24gr of unique for the powder charge. I saw loads in my book with charges going from 19-31grs. and a lot around 25gr so since my payload is the almost the same as 1 1/8 Oz. I went with 24gr. Hard to find data using fiber wads. A order to Ballistic products might change that though.

I'm mostly a rifle and pistol man so this shotgun loading is a dusty book on my shelf of reloading knowledge. I used to load on a mec in my jr Shotgun league days but rifle league took me away from that.

Thanks wonderwolf, I was just trying to work out a 00 load for my 1100 gas gun. 23 grains of unique wouldn't cut it in my new-built 1100:

That really surprises me! .......23 grains of Unique under a nine pellet load works my Saiga very smartly!

Have you looked at your gas port, ......just to make sure it is what it's supposed to be????

Yepper, cleaned both ports as part of the build.

Shot them today, Chrono didn't pick up the shot only the wads...unless the shot really is going 247 FPS lol.

A gas seal will be used on this next batch, The fiber wads probably didn't seal up as well as it could be. A order to Ballistic products is on my to do list. 24gr was a puff load but at 10 yards it printed in a dinner plate...at 50' they spread to about 18" or so. The unique seemed to work well and its resonably priced around here so I'll continue to use it until it gives me a reason not to or I get a deal on Red dot or Promo.

in an auto unique hasnt worked that well for me. i prefer blue dot myself.
