Hello,

I am working on a plinker load for my 8mm Mauser Yugo M24/47.

I am currently using 9gr of trail boss with the 175 gr lee bullet. Not sized or gas checked. Velocity is about 1100fps. Groups are about 3 inches at 50 yards. same rifle can do under 1 inch with factory ammunition.

Has anyone used a higher charge of Trail Boss for 8x57? I believe I need to push these bullets a bit faster to get the groups down.

My load:
175gr LEE
9gr Trail Boss.
Unsized at .324".
Lee Liquid Alox.
CCI 200 LR Primer.
Bullet seated to the crimp groove.

I got very good results with the LEE 175 bullet sized to .323 with GC. I used WW with 18 grains 2400 and LLA. My rifle is a very good condition Yugo M48.

I have used some Trail Boss in my 24/47. I shoot 10.3 gr. under a 321297 that has had the gas check shank drilled out to make a 177 gr. plain base boolit. This load will shoot 1" at 50 yards, but this is a true plain base boolit. I've gone as high as 12 gr. with no signs of high pressure etc. In fact, I was thinking of going a little higher to try to reduce the sooty necks due to the low pressure, and to see if it would shoot better. Just haven't got around to working some more with it.
Most reports I've read from people shooting GC boolits without the GC indicate that 1100 - 1200 fps. is about the best you can do. Plain base boolits can usually be driven a little faster, say 1400 - 1500 fps.

zomby wolf, I shoot that same load as my match load for vintage rifle matches. Its a very consistent 1" at 100 yard performer. I was concerned with the large air space in the case with 2400, but the load shoots fantastic and I have seen no evidence of it being position sensitive, etc. Just take extra precautions to avoid a double charge as it would easily fit into the case.

I've gone up to 14 gr of TB without issue but you go too much, you strip the bullet or otherwise deform it. Or you need a gas check.

2400- just shot some of that in 2 8mms this weekend. Not as good as 4759 but quite satisfying.
