anyone using ramshot powders?

it is about the only thing available right now to load 223s and 308s. Ive been using terminator which i believe is nothing but 2230 and tac which i believe is blc2. At least is looks and burns just like them.

Lloyd, I was using WC846 and Blc2 and found that I had to clean and oil the bolt and carrier every 100 rounds or so to prevent extraction problems.

I switched to X-Terminator and now can run a thousand rounds without a hitch. It burns much cleaner than Blc2 and meters great.

I'm also using Silhouette in 38 Super with good results.

Not those two but have used Big Game and Magnum. Nice uniform ball powder that meters very well. Big Game is a dead ringer for RL-15 and have used those starting loads for cartridges that were not listed at the time like the .250 Savage. Magnum I used in a 7mm Magnum and am contented with it's performance. As I understand it, Western Powders (Ramshot) had all their product made in Belgium to their specifications what ever that means. I have not compared those two powders but would not be surprised if the specifications were identical to AA2230 and BLC-2. I did see last year, I believe, acquired Accurate's product line.

Lloyd, the newer powders are much better all around in terms of chemistry. If money is not a problem, stay with them, unless you have some guns which don't care. However, most of the older formulations do well when shot full tilt which burns their trailings quite well. ... felix

I've got some TAC and some Hunter. Haven't really shot much Tac yet, and haven't even loaded with the Hunter. So far though, I'm impressed with my results with TAC in my AR.

I have used quite a bit of ZIP. The folks at Wesrern Powders informed me that the specs were engineered to have a burning rate very similar to 231. 2.8 grains of it behind 311008 has proven to be the most accurate load in all six of my test revolvers. Right now I am testing True Blue in the 9mm Luger with good results. I have been getting excellent results with Enforcer in place of AA9 or 2400 in the 30.30, 30,40 and 250.3000. It does not need a filler and doesn't seem to be position sensitive in my tests with those cartridges. Enforcer is just slightly slower burning than AA9. Hope this helps you. Neil

TAC has a very good reputation in .223. It is a ball powder. I haven't used the other powders but would certainly give them a try. The price is reasonable and the powders are available.

I've used TAC this Highpower season in my AR service rifle and am happy with it so far.Used mostly with 69-75 gr bullets and get decent vel.(same as my Reloader 15 loads) and accuracy is very similar. If metering easy is a concern go with TAC although I have no trouble with RE15 or varget either . If you find a good deal on it fine but I dont feel its any better than others I have used in previous seasons.

I bought 48 pounds of TAC when it was cheap last year. I got it for $11 pound including delivery.

I have been in load development ever since. I have tried many different bullets, charges, primers and cases but have not gotten a load below 1 1/2 minutes from a bench with a 14 power scope yet.

With AA2230C, Varget, H4895 of N140 I easily get 0.6 minute 10 shot groups with just about any bullet. Unfortunately I am out of all these powders.

:-D I have been using alot of different ramshot powders and like them all but my favorite is x-terminator, in my rem xr-100 in 204 ruger I use a 40gr v-max boolit with 25.0gr, a bunch of us do an annual trip out to south dakota to do some p poodle poppen, 3-400 yds is not uncommon, what's also nice with the 204 is you don't lose your sight pic, get to see some end results, just like this forum, you get results. :-D

I use both TAC and X-term with good results in .223 I have also used TAC in 308.

I use x-terminator with 55 gr. bullets in the AR for my shortline (200 yd) Highpower loads. When I run out of Reloader 15 (maybe next year) I plan on trying some TAC for 69 & 75 gr. bullets. I load the shortline loads on a Hornady LNL and really like how well the ball powder measures on the progressive press.

I called ram shot and got data for tac for my 7mm tcu and also 7mm br. for ihmsa shooting. it works good. i got 12 lb 2 yrs ago when it was cheep. use it in my 223 55 gr bullet
