Well, I just saw some tungsten fishing weights on the internet.

When lead sources dry up, we can switch to tungsten -- of course, we may need to beef up our melters in order to reach the 6170F melting point [smilie=1:

Absolutely, no problem. You just need a ceramic lined titanium barrel to shoot them through.

I've been casting DU. It's readily available up at the Nuke Plant near me.

My kids look funny though....

I can't wait to get acute tungsten poisoning. I heard it's a lot of fun.

No, just a sabot of some sort; that's how the military uses them.

Aw come on. It wouldn't be that bad. I figure you could cast a 200 grainer for around .75 each.

That stuff would make great night sights, but could affect your eyes :veryconfu

Doesn't swage so good though. Every time you hit it hard with Steel it tends to throw off Beta particles.

They make me sneeze.

Isn't that what the old KTW rounds did/used? Used by PD's for penetrating engine blocks and body armor back in the early 1970's and the tugsten did a good job on both

That's what a 50 BMG AP round is. Tungsten core surrounded by a little lead and jacketed in copper. I go out after shooting into a granite quarry and pick up the tungsten cores - make dandy center punches - not a ding on them :-)

Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep a Lee Drip O Matic over 1138 deg C?

Its not all that hard, I dropped one in my forge and it easily got up to 1800. :kidding:

Now getting one to hold that temp on its own is tough.

I could get it to work, with a few slight modifications http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sign/sign0151.gif http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/evilgrin/evilgrin0037.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-cool-smileys.php)
