Ok, I finally got up enough nerve to slug the bore of my new to me Ruger SRH 454. Please someone tell me how this sounds. I came up with cylinder bores of .4525 and barrel of .451. My chosen boolit is a 452-300-RF gc dropping w/w 312gr at .454 and sizing to .4525. I've shot it this weekend with 24r of 2400 and only got a powdery/flakey residue. Is .4525 big enough or do I need to not size them?

I have shot lighter loads (22gr 2400) with Magnus HC lswc 255gr bb bullets that leaded the barrel just after the forcing cone. They measure .451. I feel like these are too small.

Sounds just fine. Just play with loads to find an accurate one.

Try different diameters if you like experimenting. Sounds like you are there already,
and you have good numbers on the SRH throats and bore.

Probably the .451s were a bit small, and if like most commercial cast - hard as heck, they
won't bump up any, so your leading would be pretty much as expected.

Now you're out of excuses - gotta start making smaller and smaller groups. ;-)

Smaller groups, that's the hard part. I just don't see as good as I used to!

Yup, t like fat boolits, with your cylinder throats I would bet you are "there" or real close, play with the loads as suggested and see what your pistola really likes. I like 2400 , others like
w-296 , h-110 and on and on......Have fun.

I like my boolits fat also, I would size to .453" and be sure to match the boolit hardness to the velocity of the load.

so, to size to .453, I need to buy another sizing die right? How can I lube these without sizing and try that?
