Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone has tried loading a .40 caliber boolit in a .410 bore shotshell? OR, is there an actual mold to make slugs for a .410 bore shotgun? How were the results?

Thanks,
Scout

Caution!!
Most .410's have some choke. They'll require a much smaller slug. A soft, hollow base slug may swage down safely but IAC do some studying and use caution.

Not a good idea. If it was, somebody would already be doing it commercially. Stick with slugs.

What slugs, is there a .410 bore slug already available?
OR did you mean that I would I have to buy the slugs to load?
OR did you mean just to buy slugs?

I was looking to do the casting, loading, and shooting myself. I don't have a 410 yet, but I am looking into getting one and im just looking through my loading options.

Thanks,
Scout

Slug shells are and have been for a long time, available. You may have to coax your dealer to order them for you but, it is possible.

A 40 cal WILL NOT go through a full choke It may if soft lead and NO shot cup but need to check choke first

I have used a copper plated hollow-base round nose .40 caliber bullet made by Berry’s as a .410-bore shotgun slug with some success. As previously mentioned they should not be used in a gun that has a choke too tight for them to pass through. The performance of such loads was C-minus, fair grade in my assessment but they did work. Here is what they look like:

And here is where to by them:

I worked and hunted with a guy about 20 years ago that had an ooold Stevens single shot 410 that was also marked 44 Special. Now this gun was very old 20 years ago so any 44 Special back when it was made had lead boolits in it.
I don't recall what the choke was or if it was even marked. I did see the gun fired with 44 Specials and nothing bad happened.

Listen to Turbo! If it can be done with a scattergun he's done it or is in the process of doing it!

Actually, I was thinking about getting the Taurus Judge. I was thinking that if I load my own .410 shells (for plinking and target practice), it would be way cheaper than buying 45 colt ammo right now(because of the shortage).

Has anyone else loaded a smaller caliber bullet (from a mold) in a .410 shell?
if so, which mold did you use and what was the recipe?
