I can't find neck size dies for the 32-40 win and the 43 spanish. So I plan to buy the Lee pacesetter two die sets and bore the body out leaving just the neck size area. I will do this in a lathe. Does this sound like a good idea or a dumb one? Both of these are for single shots.

For the 32-40 Win, one can use either a 32 Win Special or 32 Remington sizer die to neck size.
Or just back the 32-40 sizer die out 1 turn. .071"

Backing the 43 Spanish die out one turn might work. Not familiar with that cartridge.

I'm not familiar with those two calibers but you should be able to just back out the FL die a
couple turns. Thats how I neck size my .270 Win. Or you could probably cut part of FL off.

That's the same idea I was thinking of doing.
haven't had time to try it yet.
Another suggestion was to find some 7/8x14 threded rod and make a neck size die.
Check out my post under "making a neck size die"
Lots of good suggestions from others in it.
Let us know how it comes out if you get around to it.

I could make the die but for the time it would take the lee dies are so cheap it ain't worth it. Might have to buy a reamer that would cost as much as the die set anyway. Plus the lee die will have the decapper already there with heat treated pin and a expander thrown in not to mention the seating die also. I guess I'm just lazy that way especially in the heat of the summer. Thanks guys.

I have the RCBS Cowboy die set for the 32-40 as I planned on shooting only lead out of my original Marlin so liked the idea of the included expanding die.
I found full length sizing to be unneccesary. I can just back out the die and neck size the first quarter of an inch. I get good boolit retention and its easy on the now hard to get hold of brass! Have just run 100 30-30 cases through the sizer and they are looking good.

I did get a PM from another member that pointed out RCBS has a neck die for the 32-40 it's just not listed in the midway catalog. For now I think RCBS has enough of my money.

C&H makes a universal neck size die.
Used to be cheaper, but it an alternative.

when you back the FL dies off so as to just neck size you can visually see the limits of the sizing operation by observing the slight oil ring on the case (neck).....assuming you have used a little 3-in-one oil on the outside of the case.....this way you can fine tune the depth of the sizing die.

I just went and looked at the C&H neck sizer setup, Just may have to have a couple of them.

You do know Lee wil make you a custom Collet Die set for $55.00?

They need two fired case's and a boolit with payment. See page 9 of the current Lee catalog small print bottom left of page under the description of the Lee collet die.

"So I plan to buy the Lee pacesetter two die sets and bore the body out leaving just the neck size area."

It works for me. I've used cheap concret type carbide drill bits to bore out the die body in a drill press. I try to stop at the neck junction so I can use it as a shoulder bump die too.

Search the junk boxes. RCBS made one at one time for the .32 Special as I have one. Found it in a box of junk dies.

Or....hit the 310 Shop (Randy Davis) for a .32 Muzzle Resizer and use a 7/8 X 14 adapter./beagle
