I've got a M 94 thats about 3 months old the problem is it lets a cartridge slip out of the magizine just enough to jam the shell carrier up when cycleing the action.
Question is is it something that has a quick fix or is this a gunsmith job ?
Thanks in advance FB

Marauder has a nice page on the fix. Not real dificult if you're handy.

Tighten the screw (right side) that holds the carrier. Tighten all the rest while you're at it. Most guys check their screws before every outing, if not stage.

Anybody thought of just nickel plating the area? wears like iron. Just sand or stone down about a half thousandths, mask it off, and build up with nickel. Should solve the problem.

does require the equipment tho. Most gunsmithing (real ones) shops should be able to do it.

Anybody know of a set of gunsmithing driver bits for the 1894?

The Chapman 8900 set has bits that fit.

Send it back to Marlin and tell them to make it right! Bought a 94 in the early 70's and brought it home several times with it jammed up and cartridges in the magazine. Trip to gunsmith and it was cleared up for a while. Last time I took it in, smith said it was fixed and I tried it out. He wasn't happy with me loading a gun in the shop. Gun jammed on first cartridge I tried to rack out. Smith took gun back to send to Marlin. No more problems. This was in the around 2000. Don't wait that long to make Marlin fix it right. As a aside the 'Cowboy and Indian Store" in Orange Co. Ca. has a good video on taking a Marlin 94 apart and properly putting it back together. From memory about $25.00 five years ago.

These are the Brownell's bits that fit the screws on a Marlin:

300-4
270-3
200-3
180-4
180-3
120-3

Chapman bit #93 for the lever pin on a Marlin. #90 gets most of the smaller screws on most guns.

A loose screw on the side plate gave me the same problem, just as has been posted before I see.

cajun shooter is correct. A loading gate that is loose or worn can let the cartridge slip past and jam up the carrier.
The loading gate has a nubb on the back side that catches the edge of the rim on a cartridge, and stops it. If the gate has a loose screw, or woprn it wont catch, and thus the dreaded "Marlin Jam".
