What's the diameter of that meplat, for someone who has that mold?

Also, I have an LBT mold that makes a bullet with a .1 meplat. Does .1 create enough shock to put down varmints (prairie dogs) in short order at only 2000-2100 muzzle velocity. Ranges would be out to 200 yards? I should add that my bullets are around 20 bhn. If they need to be softer to create more shock, how much softer?

I shoot the Lyman 225415 with a 0.1 meplat and it is very good on small game. Exits at 2000fps and out to 150 yards is good on rabbits.

I have the RCBS mold and as close as I can measure, the as-cast meplate is .010".
I like this mold. The bullets shoot very well in my 22 Hornet Contender. I use mine for silhouette at much less velocity. Can't say how they would perform on live critters.

That can't be right. Are you sure you meant .010?

Anyhow, thanks for the responses, and more are welcome. :-D

OOPS! My bad. that was supposed to be .10".

I have an older RCBS 55-FN, I just checked and it measures .125
I am just now trying it, have'nt tried anything you would consider long range. I've worked up a small game load running 675 fps. At 45 ft. it still goes right through 1 3/4 glu lam and buries itself in the second.
I would think at higher speeds it'll hit like a small train.

use a brittle alloy with higher antimonial content it will act just like a varmint boolit.
i use a 4/6 alloy i make from commercial cast and in my 7 mauser at 1800 fps it just obliterates rockchucks and prairie dogs.
it's also safe to use as it terminates flight as soon as it makes contact with anything.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's 4/6? 4 parts "what" to 6 parts "what"?

4 parts tin to 6 parts antimony.or 4/6/90
5/5 works well also, as does linotype.
4/6 is easy to make it's just lino and pure mixed to 50-50 and 2% mire tin added it pours nice boolits that are about 16 bhn, water dropping will harden them even more.

Thanks. I didn't realize that it only takes 6% antimony to make a frangible bullet. If I was going to go this route, I could just mix a little Lino in with my WW's.

You meant to write 4% tin 6% antimony 90% lead.

yeah, i actually meant to type percent.
i am so used to thinking in just the numbers as percents,or in mixing in parts to get percents my hands forget to type what i am thinking.
