That's an old RCBS Jr. press, send it to them for "free" repair or replacement.

What a shame.

It's for sale on another forum that I'm on. They want 50 bucks for it! Shame are my exact words too.

For $50 it's not worth the postage to RCBS even if they replaced it...

not even worth the grit to sandblast and refinish it either.

I won't poke fun at this guy but you got to wonder what he's thinking.

I am sure it's gotta be "vintage"!!!

Sandblast the unnecessary surfaces-I mean, remove the ram,and do not direct the spray in the primer arm or die thread area and repaint and it's useable again...

Believe it or not, that press can fairly easily be restored to full functionality. Whether or not it's worth it, especially based on the seller's asking price, is another matter.

Dave

In no way am I bashing the guy. It just makes me sad to see a nice piece of equipment that has years left in it go to waste like that. It actually looks like it is froze in place by rust!

They're dreaming.

But you know what, someone will buy it, pay for shipping, and rant about the great deal they got on an "almost new" press.

I would offer perhaps $5 if I saw it in a yard sale. Even if RCBS would fix it, it has suffered enough neglect to only qualify as scrap iron.

Yup.

For a couple bucks, I'd be all over that. For 50, maybe not so much.

The work it needs is of not much consequence to the guys that have the equipment or access to it, while it's a showstopper for the guys that don't.

It'd be a decent start to a dedicated swaging press!

That press has spend time under salt or brakish water. It doesn't rust like that just hanging around in the air.

What what die he has stuck in that thing.... It looks rusted enough that he might have to soak it in some cutting oil before ever trying to back that die out...

I wouldn't give 50 bucks for that press if it were cherry. How much do they cost new?

They don't make them anymore, nor have they for many years. They're nothing special though; just a common , pretty much bulletproof but without compound leverage, press. I used to have one; a buddy of mine who is also a member of this forum has it now, and has for several years.

I would give $5, maybe $10 if I didn't have to pay shipping too, for this one. I wouldn't give $50 for a pristine one, especially considering that I just got a C-H Heavyweight Champ in good condition for $95.

I've been using a JR press for 99% of my loading since my daddy bought it for me back when I was fifteen years old. Lessee - that's 39 years. (Cheez! Time flies!) It's loaded many many thousands of rounds - still tight, still works - makes accurate straight ammo. Bulletproof is a good way to describe 'em. I recently picked up an RS (similar but not identical) press at a local show - gave $40 for it with a duo measure, a 5-10 scale and a couple of loading blocks thrown in. I was happy with the deal! Those two presses are clamped side by side on my bench and I find that having two speeds up production on short runs. I don't miss the compound leverage at all but I haven't tried swaging or heavy case forming either.

Still have the JR I traded a $7 Carcano for in 1976. It was my first and only press till I got a LNL-AP a couple years ago. Still gets plenty of use for the odd operation I don't want set up the LNL for.

All those years it's been a bit of a grunt full length sizing my 30-06 cases but I usually neck size since most of my stash is fireformed now. A bit of compound leverage would have been nice but it's done the job and I always had more important things to spend on.
