View Full Version : Can't say enough good about Skinner Sights

www.skinnersights.com -- I can't say enough good about Dr. Tim Skinner. Great guy to work with, who is a retired Dr. and now makes sights on a lathe and mill at home. His sights mount on 1894 and 1895 Marlins, most of which go on the rear receiver, close to the eye.

I put one on my Mossberg lever, and now my Ruger 10/22. Both are outstanding. Didn't know how much of a difference in BOTH speed and accuracy a peep makes until now. If you dislike the aperture, you can unscrew it and it becomes a 'ghost ring', for even more acquisition speed. He can also make the aperture smaller or larger, depending on your preference.

Here are a couple of photos of the Skinner Sight (this is the lo-pro model) on my Mossberg 464.

One more thing I have to add... Dr. Skinner will make it right! He sent me the wrong threaded lo-pro for my 10-22. It was threaded 8-40 pitch -- standard for the Marlins. I needed it 6-48 pitch. I dropped him an e-mail and he has the correct one on the way this morning. Can't beat his customer service.

Thanks for the reminder, Randy--I've been meaning to get a Skinner Sight for one of my Marlin leverguns, and got distracted with other projects.

I got one for my Marlin 39A. The rifle came with a scope mount, but putting a scope on a lever gun just seems wrong to me, well at least for now since my eyes are still good. LOL I combined the Skinner sight with a globe front sight (can't recall the brand off hand, but its not the Lyman 17A) with a crosshair insert. Makes for accurate shooting with the little lever rifle.
I will attest to his great customer service as well. When I first installed the sights, the front globe was higher than I anticipated, and I had to run the screw on the rear peep almost all the way up to get it sighted in. I called Dr. Tim and asked if he could make me a shim that would fit under the base to raise the sight. He asked me how much higher I wanted it and said he would make a whole new taller base that much higher AT NO COST and just to send back the original one. He had the new base out the door to me THE NEXT DAY!
For a hunting gun that you get sighted in and then leave the sights where they are, the Skinner sight works fantastic and looks WAY better than a Williams receiver sight hanging off the side of the rifle.

What model and year is that gun? I have never seen a marlin with an open top like that.

I've been trying to load his website but it just isn't coming up . Does anyone have a phone number for him and business hours ( with time zone) ? That might be just the front and rear setup I'm looking for .

Thanks , Jack
