I was looking over Lyman's current offerings and saw the Lyman 311679. In Lyman's words, "A new 30 caliber 195 grain gas check mould designed by John Ardito. Features a bore riding nose which tapers up to meet the driving bands. " This is indeed new to me. Ardito is a benchrest shooter is he not?

I did a forum search and found one reference to it in a 300 Whisper. Anybody else have any experience with this design? Wonder if its worth a try?

The nose casts too small out of my copy of this mould to be of any use with US cal .30s. It may work out well in the Swiss M1911 rifles with their ~.298 bore diameters, but I haven't yet tested that theory.

I have a 311644 that is a bore rider, 190 grains, tapers from bore to groove and has 2 grooves in the bore ride section. It is desingned to fit the 308 case with out going into the boiler room. Shoots the balls! This is my best boolit in my Stevens 308. Never saw the 311679, but I will be on the lookout for it.

Thanks, Bob, that's what I wanted to know. Guess I won't rush out and buy one right now!

David, I had some samples of the 311644 from a friend's mold. He has since moved away. I have been looking for the samples but I haven't turned them up yet. As I recall it was to large in the nose to fit my 30-06 bore. Do you know how big your mold casts?
