Yep, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that is one homely looking rifle. On the other hand, I see the lovely 700 CDL SF is available in .257 WBY. I must confer with SWMBO.

SWMBO here keeps calling my M1 ugly. I keep telling her the beauty is in the function.

I agree. At least the 710 looked fairly normal (and my son's 30-06 is pretty accurate). It's replacement (770) is hideaous!

No kidding--the 770 is UGLY. I think we can see where all of the laid-off design bureau employees of the old Soviet Union found work--at American gunmakers.

In fairness, let's at least wait and see how well the rifles shoot. I had to hold my nose to shoot Glock pistols, but that ugly duckling grows into a swan on the range or when in harm's way. GLOCKS WORK.

I just took a look at one on Remington's web site. Yeah, it has some cosmetic issues, but could be salvaged with an aftermarket stock and trigger guard.

I had my 1st opportunity to see a Rem 770 yesterday. The closer I got to it,------- the father away, I wanted to get !

When the 788 was in production I thought it was a cheap, chincy, thrown together piece of trash...I learned over time that they would shoot as well as anything despite the looks and, Heaven forbid...Beech, birch, or what-ever that wood was. Now they're collectors items, worth more in many cases than 700BDLs of the same era.

Who knows, the new 770 may prove itself...That trigger guard really needs to go though!...Yikes!

I don't think so - The TG ismolded in, integral with the non-ferrous receiver, etc.

Heavens, I thought that Nylon 66 was an ugly sumbich. And, that XP100 was an ugly sumbich. And, that 788 was an ugly sumbich. Remington has had the last laugh with all of them....

It is sorta homely, It'd want to be cheap, but I'd have to take a Dremel to that trigger guard. On second thoughts, I think I'd just go buy a Marlin bolt rifle, not as much calibre choice, but a much better rifle all round it looks like.

Got no experience with 770s, but I DO have a Marlin bolt rifle that I bought new last year for the oldest boy to hunt with. There's nothing about it that I don't like. The stock is well shaped, the trigger is excellent, the action is slick, and she's a shooter!
