I was at a local truck tire place the other night
I bought 4 used Semi tires and had them install them on wagon rims
Non split rims :groner:
The guys run and hide when they see me pull in
As I understand it is a total PITA to put the tires on my rims

I was talking to the manager about the 8 5 gallon buckets of WW over by the wall and the 2 pallet boxs of them next to the buckets

The guy was nice about it , but said he could not sell or give them to me
As the owner was trading them in on new WW

But then we got to talking about shooting

He ask if I was going to use the WW for bullets

After a few min he took me for a walk around back ( out of ear shot of the rest of the guys )

He said he would trade me a 5 gallon bucket of WW for 1000 9mm , 38 , 44 or 45 bullets

So tonight I went back at closing time with a selection of bullets I had on hand
He told the guy's he would take care of me and they could leave ;-);-)

Well he took 2000 124 gr 9mm , 2000 150 gr 357's and 2000 200 gr 45's

He used the fork truck to set the 5 gallon buckets in my truck and threw in a extra bucket and 1/2
I just have to leave the buckets behind the last bay door when I go to work in the AM

I then showed him samples of 44 bullets moulds I had
He picked a 250 gr SWC

He said wait about a month and he would have me more WW
As his order for next month is 2000 44's , and at least 2000 more 357's and 9 MM's

So at least for a while I will be able to get some of those nice Truck WW's

So next time they say no
Offer them something they want

Not to be a wet blanket but have you figured out how much in lead you got for how much he got. It sounds like you got a good deal.

well if you figure 7000 grains to a pound, he got assuming he got all 8 buckets, for 136 lbs of boolits.

Good find, but he may make you work at your hobby. 9 & 1/2 buckets if I read correctly, I could live with that....[smilie=1:

I read that as 1 1/2 5gal buckets? If he nets 190# of metal after sorting & smelting, then gave him 130#+ of bullets, that leaves him 60# for 12hr work? I'm not seeing value there. I traded a guy 1500 bullets for 300# of scrap lead. WW go for about $20 a 3gal bucket of 110#. I figure 1500 44mags are worth about $150. I don;t know, do the math.[smilie=1:

i think i rather just find the shops that sell for $20 a 5 gal pail. That seems to going rate around me.

Hey fredj338, you better do your math over or read a little closer, i count 7 1/2 pails.

It wasn't clear to me if he got 1 1/2 or 8. I read where there were 8 available, then he said buckets, then he said the guy wanted 4K bullets for a 1 bucket. So if he got 8 five gallon buckets, then it is certainly worth the effort to cast 6K bullets for the guy.:drinks:

I smelted the 7 1/2 heaping buckets tonight

Almost no junk mixed in
0 zink or stick on WW......1 Snap On socket got scimmed off with the clips

Just over 200 3+lb ingots

And he called with an other contact at a different tire shop
That guy only wants a few sinkers

Wow, casting a few thousand bullets seems like a lot of work to me! But I suppose you experienced casters don't even blink at such a "small" amount of bullets.

if you use Lee 6 cavity molds,it can go like a raped ape.I am about to cast some .430 bullets, but their 2 cavity as I wont need that many.I wiss Lee would make 6 cavity rifle bullets.but I do now what the problem is.new machine and new extrutions.and that lathe is big money plus cost for dies to extrude the aluminum.

4 or 6 cavity moulds

A 20 lb Lee Drip O Matic with 2 single electric burners going on the old stove with pans melting ingots to feed the Lee pot

Having your freinds Star sizer in your basement while he is overseas serving Uncle Sam is a even biger help

But to be honest
All through the winter , when I am bored I cast
I have about a 5 gallon bucket each of cast but not sized 124 gr 9 mm , 150 gr 357's , 175 gr 40's and 200 gr 45's
With lesser amounts of a number of other bullets

The bucket are steel and set on the basement floor
Probely 150+ lbs in each one
