I was at a friends land (48 acres) pig hunting this weekend .My friend does not hunt but lets me put out corn feeders to attract wild pigs to his place.
This sow came in to the feeder about 9 am Sunday morning with a group of 15. There were pigs of all sizes in the group ,from watermelons (striped babies) up to 100 lb's. If you have never seen wild hogs eat they do it in a frenzy, obviously in competition with the other hogs.
I waited for this sow to slow down a little then I put the crosshairs on her shoulder and she dropped at the shot (breaking both front shoulders) and rolled around a little and then she scooted ( back legs pumping ) about 30 yards into the thick brush.I went in with my Reeder PH 475 Linebaugh Maximum and put 1 in the head to finish up.Pic shows it all.
*44 Mag load was a NEI mould -325gr WFNGC at 1320 fps.
*475 L . Maximum load was a Ballisti-Cast mould- 425gr LFNGC at 1430 fps.

Was curiouse as to whether you were using the NEI #266 which they list as a 429-330GC or possibly the NEI #263B which they list as a 429-310GC .

I already own molds for both of those and was hoping possibly that they had brought out something new !

Sometimes it's amazing how a critter will take a solid hit from a big bore & still keep kicking for a while.

They're usually dead already, but won't lie down, just like a snake wriggling.

It's all in shot placement... I grew up on a ranch and periodically, we would have to put down a sick cow... It was possible to do it with a single .22LR into the skull and it was quick -- like turning the lights out type quick... Maybe a slight shudder at most and then it's dead... Wild boars don't tend to let you get close enough to do something like that, much less angle the head so that you can direct the bullet right towards the brain stem and sever it... At least I think that how it ended up working with the cattle we had to put down... Maybe it just got inside the skull and bounced around awhile... Either way, it was quick...
