I just trashed my Lee 30 cal mold today. I'm sure I did something stupid due to my inexperience. But this could be a blessing in disguise.

From what I'm reading, paper patching seems to be the bullet caster's answer to copper jacketed bullets. So, it seems I may be able to solve the leading problem before I ever run into it thanks to you guys!

My rifle is a Ruger M77 308 Winchester. What mold and paper should I get? Please help with this one, as I'm on a Lee budget...

Buy you a '74 Sharps!

My best 30 cal mould is the Lyman 3112414. I size it .3015, give it two wraps of 16# printer paper and lube it with BAC. After lubing I push it through a .309 die and load. In a .308 you can use a BHN of around 15 for any velocity. The 311284 is a good one too, but a bit heave for the .308. Works great in my 300RUM.

Pdawg does his one way, I do mine another. His way works, and my way works.
I would use the Lee .30cal mold. That is the one I use. I mix my alloy HARD! I have zinc in my melt. My boolitts when they hit the berm, burrow so I cannot find them. I have never recovered a fired boolitt.
I size my prime casting to .308, two wraps of Notebook paper or equivelant, let dry, size to .309.
Day in, day out, great groups at 100yds.
I use full tilt loads, and have not found a velocity limit with paper.
And indeed, I would go with a Sharps if I was not oriented to Palma. I got started with that, and have been that way since.
A Sharps would be the way to go.

Just for the sake of conversation, what do you mean by "trashed"? The mold may still be useable yet for PP boolits if the cavity is scratched. I use 50/50 ww/pb alloy. I use a push thru LEE sizer to .306" I use printer paper and wrap twice. I size again to .309", lightly wipe jackets with diluted LLA let dry for a few days then load and shoot. Robert

I am wondering about the "trashed" also.
I have been able to use some definately not showroom castings with paper patching. The sizing cures a lot of evils.
