Does anyone use one? Who (if anyone)makes a neck sizing die to size from 30br up to 300 win mag? I saw some in the midway catalog but that didn't help. I am looking to neck size only 30 bellm for my contender. It is a 7mm BR with the neck opened up tp .30 and blown forward. I could order one for 308 win and trim the body shorter to fit . Also if I get one that uses a bushing I could get sizers for cast boolits and a smaller one for J-bulls.

Try backing your FL die a little. It should do about the same thing size the neck and not size body. FB

Contact Hornady, I have one of their neck sizing dies and use it for several lengths of same caliber cartridges. One could acquire a 30 cal neck sizer die for the largest case body, and cut it shorter to be able to use for the real short cartridges.

Yeah, I know redneck, but it works for me.

with the tapered ball hornady uses, they are slick for necking up cases, just use a little lube on the inside and there you go.

I use a Hornady Neck sizing die for 7.62x39 and larger , I trimmed off a little off the die on the lathe

I have 2 , the second I installed a expander from a 303 die set ( got from Hornady for free by asking for one )
That way I can neck size only for the 303 Brit

Makes my rifle 3X more accurate

Since we are talking Neck Sizing. If you shoot cast how much smaller should the case be than the BOOLIT? I have heard .003?

I am throwing this out there for the 45-70 and .44MAG. :)

The Lee collet die uses a mandrel that is easily resized a few thou, that could open up a neck well if the dies were within your speccy.

My belief is no more than .002", depending on hardness of alloy.

I use 3 Redding bushing dies that I've shortened for a multitude of different cartridges. I've shortened an '06. .308W and a .284W. I use multiple sized bushings to not only sized for cast and jackets but also to tailor the neck tension to .002-.003 depending on bullet diameter. Not having to drag an expander ball back through the neck also increases concentricity. Many benifits and a lot of versatility to using the bushing dies. ReddingHornady and now RCBS make them along with custom BR dies from other makers.

Can you go into this depending on hardness of alloy a bit further? :cbpour:

I believe he was reffering to the softer alloy boolits may actually get swagged down instead of opening the neck up.

Okay well my Lead mix is 4 parts soft lead and 1 part Lino. Or 4 pounds of pure and 1 pound of Lino and water dropped. :)

A simple test to do: Prepare the case of your choice..size as usual, bell the mouth, measure a boolit for dia., seat the boolit is said case. Then pull the boolit and measure again. (A kenetic/hammer type puller) If the diameters are the same, things are good to go.

ETA Have you checked the BHN of your boolits?

Okay so I get this right lol. If I use a BOOLIT sized .432 and then pull it out of the case then said case and BOOLIT should measure .432?

That is correct. If neck sized too small or lead too soft then boolit will be below bore size and accuracy can decrease/ leading increase.
