I shot some Lee 309-150 wheel weight flat points out of my Marlin 336, propelled by 14.4 grains of WC820. I was very impressed by the consistency of the velocity. At one point, I had a string of 6 rounds that had an extreme spread of 4 fps. My standard deviation for 20 rounds tested was 15 fps, which is the best I've ever recorded for any of my handloads.

I measured the powder with a Lee Perfect Powder measure. The measure leaks badly due to the tiny ball size, but that doesn't seem to affect the powder charge weight.

Average velocity with the 150 grain boolit was 1659 fps. A very nice plinking and 100 yard hunting round.

I'm impressed with it too. I've been shooting the same loads Junior http://www.castbullet.com/reload/wc820.htm does and am very pleased.

OK--this isn't supposed to happen. Ball powders in low density loads shouldn't produce low ES or SD. You guys need to stop this nonsense and get back to the full cases of WC-860 and start acting respectable.

That's final.

Tell the single shot fellers Al, who are using H108. sundog

The above post was entirely tongue-in-cheek. "Never say never, never say always" should be the watchword of this board.

I am developing a liking for H335..is there a cheapo surplus version?

Charger,

Yes, it's called 844....the loading data they give you for it is for H335, but as with any surplus powder, start low and see what kind of lot you have. I bought some and love it.

So far I have had the best groups with my 30-30 and a ful case of wc 860. Still working on it. I can't see the sights well, so this one only gets shot now and then.

David--

How much debris is left in the 30-30 bore after firing? Despite my statements, I haven't yet tried the "full case of WC-860" bit in the 30-30.

Al,

I used my 311284 which weighs 220 grains. Some stuff was in the barrel, not as much as I expected. Case necks were not black. I find in my 308, the 190 grain 311644 works, but the 311466 leaves black case necks. In my enfield, 60 grains works fine with a 311466. Still unburned powder in the barrel, but...

EVERYTHING I have tried a full case of WC860 has shot accurate groups. even the 22-250, but I don't use it because fouling in that gun screws up accuracy.

I am going to get a few more jugs because it works so well.

That has largely been my experience with WC-860 as well. I have a lot of 6.5 x 55 ammo with 140 grain j-words that will get some work on Tuesday with full cases of the stuff. It sure is useful stuff--and the price is attractive, too. Time to try the 30-30 with both 860 and 820, it appears.
