I searched thru the loads and lever gun threads but found nothing to help me. I have a newer 94AE Trapper in 30-30 and a couple hundred Ranch Dog 165s from Lead melter. I'm trying to work out a load at about 1850fps. Powders I have on hand are 2400 which I don't think will work cause its too fast; H110 which I don't think I want to use no matter what Paco says; Reloder 7 probably my best bet; H414 and Reloder 15 are about the same burn speed and a strong possibility; and H4831 which I assume will be way to slow. So all you guys who admire these handy little 30-30s give me a shout and I'll thank you in advance. Keep writin', I'm learnin'. Helice

3031 is fine. Reloader 7 is the only powder you have that is appropriate. Use data for jacketed 170 grain bullets and work up from there until you get to where you feel you need to be. Your velocities will not be terribly far off from what you see in the manuals. Your speeds should be no more thann 100 to 150 fps less than from a 20-inch carbine.

Can't speak about H414 as I've never found a NEED to have some... my .30-30s love IMR 3031, IMR 4320 and Reloder 7. Reloder 7 seems to have eeked out the best accuracy in my 26" bull barreled 94 Winnie... and I can ding the steel gong at 200 yards outta my Trapper with regularity using 27 grains of that powder under a 150gr FNGC. Drop down a few grains and work up from that with your 165grain pill.

This is really appreciated. I tried I-3031 a few years ago with a different Trapper and had no luck using it with the Lee 170 FN. The 444 Marlin functioned best on the Re-7 so I have a caddy of it. Hope to check out the 24-27 grain loads as soon as I can. I'll certainly load up some H414 loads too.

Have any of you tried the Re-15? There was a great article in Rifle Mag on Re-15 and the author used it at about 34 gr in the 30-30 + 170. I use Re15 in the 350 Rem Mag so I have a bunch of it. Thanks again. and keep writin' cause I'm learnin. Helice
