And big mag guns!!!

I know bad combo, but thats what he has. 7MM Mag and 300 Win mag.

I have a Lyman 311291 mold and a 140 gr 7MM mold.

I am at his house in Ohio right now, and all my stuff is in Ga. When I get him stable I'll go home and get to loading. I have 7Mag dies and can borrow a set of 300 mag dies.

The starting point will be IMR 4198 and dacron filler in both cases, but I don't have a have a 300 to try them in.

Looking for any help with low recoil loads for both that he can shoot, as soon as he's on his feet.

With other problems, shooting is his passion, and I want to keep him active.

Thanks,

Nora

I can't help with loads for those two. However I would strongly suggest looking into one of these for a bum shoulder. http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.com/past/catalog.asp?family=past-recoil-pads I bought one and it was the best $36 dollars I've ever spent on any shooting accessory. I have a thing for long ranging my '03A3 with the "J"word. 20 to 25 high end loads with out it and I'm about done with it and on to something lighter. But with it, it's turned into an all day shooter. Literally.

A few years back there was an article on downloading the 7 mag with 4895 and a filler with j-bullets. I tried some and they worked real well.
Unfortunately the cat pissed on that notebook so I don't have the load. Might call Hogdgon, they can probably help you with load info.

Stupid is right.
Youd think a cat would know to move a note book out of the liter box.

He has a bunch of WW748 powder and the boolits I can send up to him will give him some low vel loads to work with.

Thanks everybody.

Rather than screw around with finding loads with less recoil for big belted mags and having a bum shoulder, I suggest trading for rifles with less recoil, and more reloading potential. I would suggest something in the 7x57/7-08, 243,250-3000Sav, etc cagagory. The guy could probably shoot a lot more, with a lot less pain, at a lesser cost, and probably with greater satisfaction.

1st sgt---I sure have to agree with you---get a more shooter friendly gun. Leadman it's a shame you didnt test that load---as in urrr uhh on the cat.

Mite try a 260. Mine is on a santa barbara action. Shoots nosler 120's very well, no more recoil than a 243. I'm pushing them at 2850 fps, can't do that with a 243. It's in a ramline stock so ,the way the stock is sectioned in the bbl channel it would be easy to weight the forearm if you needed to.

A 250-3000 would be perfect and they are once again a cataloged caliber in the Savage model 14 American Classic. Get him one while you still can.
