Just pulled down some 1943 M2 ball ammo & some 1952 S.L. AP ammo (all 30-06). The cases were slightly grungy (hence no collector value, but very usable) and the bullets looked OK. Forgot to weigh the powder but it looks like 4895 MAYBE????? Whaddya think??? Depreacher ps. BTW, those APs brought almost $1 ea. on GB last month. Wife even let me keep some of the money.

If extruded powder it is a non-canister lot of 4895 referred to as I.M.R.4395 (misprint?) in TM 9-1305-200, Small Arms Ammunition, dtd June 1961.

THANKS Larry,

It is extruded, so I will start off light with 4895 data. Your answers have helped me several times in the past 4 years, and were always right on. Depreacher:-D

I had several thousand rounds of the 43 ball ammo. It was 4895. I pulled some down, shot some as they were.

Hi Castboolit preacher.
The powder is probably 4895 as it was readily available until probably the 1960s-
early 1970,as I know we used it in Australia for years after.
It was a known fact, that in the 70s it was, with other powders heaped up & burnt in large quantities both here & in the US.
Also I don't know that people are aware that the 1943 primers were Mercury based, which can cause barrel corrosion, however Iv'e still a sugar bag of 30-06 shells, from rifle testing in the early 1970s.
