I lucked into a full box of old .58 minie balls the other day. I brought them home thinking they would make a good 20 ga slug. I weighed them and I was disappointed to find that they fall between 1 1/4 and 1 5/16 oz. I have five shotshell reloading books, and I can't find any 20 ga loads over 1 1/4 oz in any of them. Also, they do not fit in a plastic wad, so a nitro card ward column would be needed.
The exact dimensions of the minie balls are: 570.9 grains, 1.03" length, .578" diameter (at widest point).
Any ideas?
Or should I just throw them in the melting pot?
