Slug the bore and add .001". I would try them as cast first.

I shoot around 8 different 45-70s and size all my bullets to .459". They work in all of them.

My contender bbl sluggs .458" and I have shot .459 and .460s w/o any problems. The bullet I mostly use is a ranch dog 420.

My encore shoots 459 and 460 with equal accuracy. I am shooting Ranch dogs 425 mold with super moly, groups touch at 50 yards using IMR 4198. Some have said that the barrels need to be throated to shoot cast, I have had no issues with my encore leading at all. In fact, it shoots cast better than jacketed bullets. Hope this helps. Will be using this rifle next week in Canada after bear. Should be fun...

I use a Bullberry barrel and size all my cast bullets for six different firearms to .459. They all shoot minute of angle or less.

I have 2 TC Contender pistol 45/70 barrels
One slugs .458 and the other at almost .459

I have tryed from .4595 to .462 , with about the same group sizes for all
As .460 works in all my other 45/70
I stick to it

I can say this much for sure
Accuracy can go down hill quickly with hoter loads
Not so much from leading

But the fact my hand starts to hurt

I plink with starting trap door loads and hunt with mid range Marlin loads
