Hi Everybody,

I've inherited what appears to be a full container of Clays powder.

The propellant is new to me and the appearance is a bit odd....

It looks like a flake type propellant, but there are some flakes that look like dounuts. I'm wondering if Trail Boss some how got mixed in?????

Anyone have a quick pic they could show me???

Or should I just dispense with the powder???

Regards,

BlueSmoke

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. Clays is a flake powder and Trail Boss is little donughts. I don't think I'd use it.. Maybe someone else has a different opinion or something you can do with it..
All the best,
Jack

I just went and checked my jug of powder and the majority of the flakes are "kinda" light to darker greenish coulor and the little donuts are yellowish this powder is known to be clays !

10-4.....

That's what mine looks like. Since I've never used it before I wasn't sure about the yellowish donuts.

what you have is indeed clays. some flakes are solid, some are "donuts"
does not flow well thru my lee powder measure...at least not with small pistol powder charges

Good description of Clays blaser.306.
I'd say mostly round flakes with some perforated.
Probably safer to use it with Clays data than Trail Boss data.
I'd be happy to do that for you!

Totally normal. Kinda like "Doughnut Dot" powder, rather than Red Dot, Blue Dot, etc..

Tried the Clays in 45 ACP today.

Used 4.0gr behind a 200gr SWC.

Got some failure to feeds. Slide may not have gone back far enough to generate enough energy moving forward to get the round all the way into the BBL.

I will go to to 4.2 gr and try again.

Very clean powder though.
