Anyone know? I am doing what I can to score some lead and maybe this will help me figure values for amount of lead IF I find some.

Usually about 120-140 but it depends on the size of the weights, garbage and so on.

bout 150- lbs full, about 110 or so after melting down and tossing the garbage.
most guy's on here can't add past 200. but can eyeball a pail of ww's from across a garage and tell you the final ingot contents within 2 lbs.

I just picked up 2 full pails today. They weighed 137 and 119 pounds and it depends what type of weights and hard to get an accurate weight but around 125# is a fair guess.

It will vary greatly. I got to indenticle looking buckets from different sources, one was 150lb the other was 90lbs with lots of zinc at the bottom.

Man lead is much heavier than I though. I expected around 50 pounds lol. Alright thanks.

If I can find a good bucket full I will try my hand at casting. I went to a junk yard yesterday and asked what they charged for the wheel weights and the lady looked at me stupid lol. Oh well. I posted an ad on Craigslist and going to get on the phone and see if any tire shops will save some for me.

Picked up a FULL bucket yesterday and weighed it on my hanging 200 lb. scale. 148 lbs. Took out all of the stick-on weights and garbage, ended up with 140 lbs of WW which I paid $20.00 for.

Thats about all I want to lift at once also. I don't like to carry them to far either.

Of course some 5 gal buckets are actually bigger than others. I can't figure that one out yet!!!! On average I have weighed several and they tend to be right at 120 pounds if level full. If you can find some 3/ 3 1/2 gal buckets, they make moving the contents a lot better. They tend to be close to 90 pounds FULL. Of course like everyone has mentioned it can vary due to type, size of WW and the trash content.

BTW....has anyone else noticed that scrap WW have been slowly increasing in price? I found one re-cycler that was buying them for $0.15/lb. and selling for $0.75/lb. Not a bad turn around on his investment.

Years ago I weighed a bucket and then measured the amount with a tape measure. At the time it worked out to about 12# to the inch. Put some in your collecting bucket and do the same for reference purposes. Now if you see a bucket that is one third full at a garage you can do a quick calculation in your head as to what to offer, or if a price is stated to you, you know if it's a fair price...Ray

Couldn't we ban politicians instead? Would probably be better for the environment.

WHAT!?

Do you have a link to a legitimate (news?) website that says just that?

Or a link to where some federal legislation was passed?

DUH! Our OP is the guy from the Shotgun World forums who was asking about birdshot or buckshot casting, especially as it pertained to 3 gun competitions over on that forum in the reloading subsection.

Hey, Opiy, you're welcome, by the way, on all the useful information I gave you in that thread you started over there.

<sarcasm>

I think the carpal tunnel has finally subsided. It flared up with that dissertation I wrote about casting and 3 gun on Friday, May 8th.

I noticed that Opiy had ducked into the Shotgun World forums to check in on his thread on Saturday, May 9th.

Man, I guess you're okay, you didn't get hurt in an accident or anything, right?

<sarcasm>

Ya, know, seriously, now, my time is worth something to me. And I do think I kinda go out of my way to relay what competition and casting wisdom I have gained from the school of hard knocks and then transmit that wisdom over various internet forums. And over YouTube, too.

Just a quick reply like "Hey, guys thanks for all the info. I really appreciate it!" would be nice.

Otherwise, I am just gonna keep up all my "gouge" and "intell" to myself.

Why should I tell a newb where to track down lead at if they ain't even going to be friendly/respectful about the information they receive?

:confused:
