I recently picked up an old (Micro groove rifling) .444 Marlin. The .444 case seems perfect for a good, cast 300gr bullet. I have read several articles about difficulty with cb loads. I haven't fired the rifle yet and would like to get some guidance on cb loads that work. Any advice would be appreciated.

Shoot hard, oversized blts and you probably won't have a problem. Mine likes the 310gr. Lee, BH of 22, Lars Lube, and any powder that drives it at about 1600+. Only problem in seating depth, because of short throat and action, so blts must be seated deep and loaded rounds look a bit ugly. BUT they shoot well and thats what counts.

Ranch Dog is on vacation till 1 June. He might still have some molds for the 444.

The 444's are fine with CB's , I use a 300gr-310gr and R.D.'s 265gr, and as long as the boolit fits the BBL at about .002 oversize, they work well. I water drop WW's and they do fine at 1600-1700fps with GC's. IMHO. My Marlins like .432-34 diamiter boolits.

Like Slow Elk said, size to at least .432 and you must adhere to the over all length. We have a GB running right now that will have a 300-310 Gn Hollow point bullet that can be used in the .44 Mag and the .444 Marlin with three crimp grooves so the bullet can be used in rifles and revolvers. JesterGrin pointed to the thread. There is also some lighter designs that are coming out so stay tuned. Sized to .432 and pushed hard the .444 loves cast. Also go to http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php and jump into the .444 forum and lots of great reading there.
