Somewhere I've read that SR4759 is a viable powder in the .357 Mag. Now I can't locate it in any of my manuals. Anyone tried this? I have four jugs of the stuff that are gathering dust.

oksmle, Ly Cast Boolit, 3rd Ed, says 358311 with 10.0/4759 is 874 fps and 12K cup. 14.0 is 1189 and 30.1K cup.

Now if all that dust is really the problem, just leave it on the jugs, and I'll gladly come get things cleaned up by removing them, and I won't even charge for the service.

My favorite powder for 45-70 can cast bullets. Didn't like it in my 45 Colt.

I use it quite a bit with the Lyman 358429 (170± grains) boolit in my Security-Six and my Marlin 1894…

11.5 to 13.0 grains of it produce velocities of 1257 and 1554 fps in the Marlin. The same charges work O.K. in the Security-Six, but velocities are much lower of course. It is my powder of choice for the 358429 and the Marlin…

13.5 grains of it and the RCBS 38-158-SWC (158± grains) is very accurate in the Security-Six with a muzzle velocity of 1071 fps…

It is an acceptable powder for the 357 Magnum, but there are much better ones available. Yet, it is the only powder that would make the Marlin and the 358429 shoot to very good accuracy at 100 yards…

Good-luck…BCB

There are 4 powders I can not live without.
4759 tops the list, then 296, Varget and Unique.

oksmle, I have not seen sailman for quite a spell. He stopped coming to t he mil bolt match when gas prices got too high. It's at least 60 miles from his place to the range.
