I have my eye on a USFA SAA in .38 Special and was wondering if anybody knew how it handles +P loads. My Smith Outdoorsman is my usual "go to" for higher end .38 Special loads, but I really do like the USFA revolvers.

Anyways, anybody have one and what do you think? Thanks in advance.

I have yet to hear of, read about, or see a USFA that couldn't handle +p loads. Regardless of caliber. I don't own one so I cannot speak from personal experience.

i have 2 usfa's in 45 colt they shoot so well with standard loads and boolit weights from 160 to 250 i never thought about stepping them up.
just look up usfa's site and give them a call.

basicaly the same cyl dimentions as a colt and they chambered colts in 357 so it ought to be more then safe.

In the old heyday of the 38-44 (loadings that would make the current .38+p loads whimper and hide under the porch in terror and shame) the Colt Model P was always included in lists of suitable firearms. I cannot imagine any good quality Peacemaker pattern revolver in .38 Spl that could not handle a regular diet of any loads under 30,000 psi (Way hotter than current +ps)

Thanks, guys. Kinda figured there'd be some room to play with some .38-44 loads.

I own a brace of USFA SAs in 38-40 (38 W.C.F.). I shoot them every week with full-house loads of 2F Goex and 190 grain boolits. I have had them for over a year and have, as I said, used them a lot in competition. They would pass for new except for the holster wear on the front of the barrel and extractor tube. They are as tight as the day they came to me from the factory. I imagine they will be solid for my lifetime. I cannot imagine what would loosen up on these gunz with +P rounds.

By the way, these are the best pistols I've ever owned in terms of fit, finish, function, and accuracy. They are a bargain!!! May I suggest you get your gunz from Longhunter, who gives you some amazing tuning for selling you the gun at MSRP. Can't be beat.
