You guys are the only ones I can brag to, none of my friends cast and my wife just calls it "your hobby". I received my first molds with handles yesterday from Graf & Sons. The first one I wanted to try was the 452-200-RF. As per the instructions I cleaned it with mineral spirits and then smoked it with matches. I only had to throw back a dozen or so bullets. My Lee bottom pour pot is on back order so I had to use my 3 quart smelting pot and a soup ladle to cast with. Here are the results. My first 125 keeper boolits.

Nice casting.... Poor counting. There are 130 boolits there.:kidding:

OK, so I was too excited to count correctly:-D It took about 45 minutes to cast these. It sure didn't seem like that long while I was doing it. I measured 10 at random. Eight measured .453, two measured .4525.

Nice work Jim. My first 125 or 130 did not look like yours. Mine were all wrinkly and funny looking. Couldn't convince myself to heat that mold more.

I think it helps that the 452-200-RF is almost casting a round ball. It has a very shallow lube groove and there is not a lot of detail. My next one's will be TL358-158-SWC. Those might be more difficult.

That's a great boolit--still my Number One boolit.

Now watch - you'll get the pot and ladle and not pour 'em as pretty as with what you used here ! And mpmarty, who has time to count boolits in a pic ? You really have the casting disease, may have to refer you to Casting Anonymous....

I am thinking of canceling the Lee bottom pour pot that I have on backorder at Grafs and using that money in the search for primers. I cast some TL358-158-SWC this afternoon. Pouring with a soup ladle is very easy. I can see that I will run out of primers before I run out of anything else.

I just started casting and reloading a couple weeks ago and it sucks to not be able to actually do it because of this shortage of primers.
Sort of makes it not worth having spent the time and money getting set up to cast and reload.
I figure Ill probably end up losing interest in it altogether before the shortages die down.
