I have worked up a super accurate load in my 358 Win.

It consist of 38.0 grs. IMR 7383 with a Lyman 358318 HP sparked by a CCI-34 primer. No pressure signs in my 98' Mauser 358 Win. , or Browning BLR 358 Win.

This load will put 5 rounds at 50 yards into a " ragged hole ".

IMR 7383 has granule size similar to IMR 5010. No powder measure that I've ever tried will throw it reliably.

So .........................., I made me a spoon. IT WORKS GREAT ! ! Doesn't deviate 2/10ths of a grain, charge to charge. 38.0, 38.1, 37.9, , etc.

I've shot groups that were weighed and groups that were thrown with my spoon. I can't tell any difference in group size.

I've got 24 lbs of IMR 7383. I may NOW have a good use for it.

I have that same boolit and a BLR in 358 Winchester. I may have to give this load a try as I have about given up on it as a cast shooter.

Thanks ...

MtJerry :

I size mine .360 ( they are " as cast " .362 ).

I put a very soft crimp on the case at the point that you see in the photo. My crimp is just enough to remove the bell put on the case mouth by the Lyman " M " die.

I've shot 40 grains of IMR 7383 with this bullet also, but the space inside the case is getting VERY crowded with 40 grs.

38 grs. seems to be a nice, well balanced load. My Lyman 358318 is a Factory HP if that makes any difference.

-very nice indeed Ben.

Any trash left in the barrel? Trash in the barrel never bothered me though. Milsurp 4895 always leaves some in my 358.

Where's the famous "Ben target" pics? ..

Ben I had good results with 7383 in my 356 before I sold it and have not tried it in my 358. It seemed to be a good fit fore bore expansion and case. I stuck a bolt with a 250 gr Hornady and a book starting load for 4350 in the 35 Whelen so Iwas leary. As with all new to you work up to it.

Pat :

So you want to see targets , Uuuhhhh ?

My 98' Mauser 358 Win., has a 3 X 9 Redfield on it right now. The scope cut my group size dramatically.

When I shot the 40 grs. of IMR 7383, the rifle had metallic sights only on the rifle.

Trash, ....................very minor in the bore. I'm getting a pretty clean burn.

What kind of speed do you get with this load?

Any plans to introduce it to a deer? I'd be all gung ho to do so if I had a good load like that.

I don't have a chrony, so I really don't know about the speed. I'd like to know the speed if someone shoots this load through their chrony ! !

Deer, .....YES........I'll be introducing this load to the deer population here in AL this fall.

Ben, What's the burn rate on 7383? You just had to go and find a good load with 318HP with a powder I don't have. :-) I haven't had particularly good luck with that boolit, except with IMR-4227 and then, it's only about 2MOA. I'll head to the range later this week if it stops raining and maybe find the load it likes.

Rainy in LA too? What happened to Al Gore and his weather?

JDL:

IMR - 7383 is a surplus powder. Burn rate varies with the particular Lot # that you have on hand , burn rate is roughly between IMR 4064 and IMR 4350.

If you've got some IMR 4895, shoot 32.0 grains with the 318 in the 358 Win. A very accurate load for me also.
