Gentlemen,

I posted this question on another board where I usually get good answers, and all I got were rude comments that it was not an 8mm (duh) and that I shouldn't mess with it! So I thought I'd try posing the question here.

Old western scrounger has Mauser 71/84 "parts guns" for sale CHEAP. They are missing the bolts and sundry other parts, but I think I have a source for these parts at a local gun show. It's at least worth the (minimal) risk to own such an historic gun.

My question is, before I buy one, are these rifles chambered for the 43 Mauser cartridge that Lee sells dies for? I saw dies listed for several 43 caliber cartridges so I want to make sure I can use these reasonably priced Lee dies before I get the gun.

Thanks for any help.

Yep...the Lee .43 Mauser dies are what you're looking for.

I have a set and have been pleased with the quality.

Some parts for the 71/84 can be might hard to come by...the magazine tube and spring are an odd size, for one.

..................Yup, the Lee dies are specificly for the M71/84. The first M1871 Single shot had a spec'd groove of .451" and a bore of .433"

When the repeater was developed they took a .005" groove reduction but didn't monkey with the bore. Why? Ya got me :-)
