Problem is not the twist, per se. Look for other faults. ... felix

:Fire:I am interested in your synthetic lube
could you post the recipe of your lube
also to what velocity it is capable of operating in shooting cast bullets
as far has your best cast bullet its a matter of trial and error but I always had success with 150 to 180 gr. bullets
and finally welcome to the cast bullets world...

From my experience with the combo that you describe, you're doing about as well as can be expected.

A 200 grainer is a pretty heavy "umph" out of a .38 Special case and that long bullet takes a pretty good speed to stabilize.

Using the 358430, mine did all right at 50 yards. At 100, I got many keyholes. Loading in a .357 case and upping the ante on velocities I was able to attain about the accuracy that you describe.

I finally stepped back down to the 358429 or 358439 and accuracy came into about 2" at 100 yards or a little better if I tried./beagle

Can you get it to touch the rifling? Might help. Need to know more about the lube. Have you cast the chamber? Do your boolits fit the chamber/leade of your rifle?

Me thinks the answer my lie in the questions from Leftiye , if the boolit doesn't fit the chamber and seal the bore , the lube isn't all the problem, and the 1/16 twist should work ok, IMHO.

+1 what Slow Elk said. You didn't mention whether or not you were getting any leadin in the bore. The twist is not you problem. I regularly shoot 200 grainers out of my 1 in 18 twist barrel with excellent results.

Another thought. Driving that boolit at that speed from such a small case needs a very fast powder. Boolit damage and upset might be too great before it engages the rifling. Grease groove damage and effect on lube left can also hurt groups.
Skidding too far down the bore is another problem.
You need a boolit and powder with a longer case that will smooth out the pressure curve instead of slamming the boolit while still in the chamber.

4" at 100 yards is well within minute of Deer! and it still should be Minute of Deer out to 150 yards. I don't see a problem. The last two years I shot/hunted (5 deer)with a custom rook rifle in 357 mag. ( 17 1/4" , 1 in 16 barrel inside of a 20" Modified break action Muzzle loader barrel, You might call it an extended breech plug :-) early BPI Beertooth Mag) I load it to 1275 FPS (crony) with a 172 gr SWC out of an old Ohaus mold. The very best I can do with it is 3" @ 100.

I have 2 Ohaus 358-158 swc molds, one I modified to plain base the other still has the GC base. I havn't hunted with the Gas checked boolits, just got that mold in Jan.
Both Molds drop boolitx of 170gr + with WWs.

I use the old NRA 50/50 lube.
