View Full Version : MAY Single Shot Pistol Postal Match

David R

This month lets try Single shot pistols. No magazine pistols, just those ones that take one rifle or pistol boolit.

50 Yards, 10 shots off the bench or what ever you want to do. We are shooting for group size, I am looking for that elusive one hole group.

What ever works best for target and your sight.

Groups are to be measured for whole size then deduct one boolit sized diameter. Groups should be in a decimal, hopefully with no 1 in front of it. If its bigger, POST IT ANYHOW.

I am going to try with a TC contender in 32-20. Its the only one I have.

Contest starts today and ends the last day of May.

Of course it HAS TO BE CAST.

Get those single shot hand guns out and stretch their legs.

Sounds like fun. Time to pull out the MGM barrel and dust off the cobwebs.

I'm gonna have to miss this one. I haven't got the gear. :(

I am going to try a shoot every month for a year and see if participation picks up. Maybe next month.

It seems I have to keep them easy. I read about one hole groups in other sections, but have yet to see one in this section.

I want to include everyone, but can't in every postal match.

Do you have a suggestion?

I remember a 100 yard 45 acp match that was a blast, but how many are really going to compete? (I still have my target :) )

I'm thinking revolver or semi auto pistol 25 yards bench next.

Off hand tests the shooter, bench tests the loading skills and to some extent shooter skill.

Today I am going to practice for the first outdoor bullseye pistol match of the year which is tomorrow morning. I'm bringing my contender too.

I remember the 100 yard 1911 match too. I didn't keep my target. I reused it since it didn't have any holes in it.[smilie=l:

I don't have any real suggestions. I think you're doing a great job. I'll be in for benched pistol. It'll be embarrassing, but I'll be in.:)

I just bought a Lyman 287641 160gr mould for my 7mm BR. I have both 10" and 15" barrels for my Encore and a 24" rifle barrel. I guess I will have to come up with a load for this, any suggestions.

I would be up for that.

scope or irons?
..

run what you brung.

Please note in your post what you used.

I gave it a shot today. This is only my first target of many. I used a 50' pistol bullseye target. It didn't work well with my 2x scope with a black dot in the center. I did get a "group", but instead of a one holer, I got a 10 holer. [smilie=1:

Picture later.

Remember, enter early, enter often

Yup, nice day here too, so I thought I'd give this a try.
That "One ragged hole" idea went south after shot number 2!
Good thing this is a re-entry match.
..

and I'm in for a 25 yard resolver or aromatic shoot when that comes around

Beerd, what were you shooting?

TC contender, 32-20. LEE 118 grain soup can, sized .310 gas check, Carnuba red, 13.6? WC820

2 1/4"..... No decimal places here. Coulda used a yard stick, not calipers to measure this one

OK, I posted the first target, now you folks have some thing to beat.

Now for the excuses.... Wrong target.... It was windy....... Sun was in my eyes...... :)

David,

T.C. Contender,
10 inch 30 Herrett,
factory iron sights
160 gr gas checked NEI boolit
home brew lube
17 grains of IMR 4227

had a "flier" (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it) that gave me a 4" pattern.

I'll post my next target, the first one is just a warm up

I just poked my head in here to see whats up.I don't understand 'postal match' but I think it has something to do with 'mailing your targets in'? But a newer version using the net to post(mail) targets. I thought they were matches that everyone had attended and the results were just posted here:-? Good thing I have a contender, I can jump in on this one.

My TC is in 30 bellm, 13" virgin valley barrel
I found using the blown out 7mm BR cases The pressures are lower than using the 444 cases. I have been working up 'J' loads to hunt with but I cast a lee 150 gr RN. may even PP a few.

I guess I'll dig out my 32-20 /10" /4.5 gr Unique/Lee C309-120R, and give this a try.

I will try and play. .22rf count?

10 shots in one hole. I will not say it can't be done. I just have to laugh though about the one hole groups and the guys that shoot 3 shots doing it. Proof is in the puddin' as the saying goes.
Should eliminate some of the interenet exsperts, lol.

I might just have to dust off a Contender barrel and give this a try. Now I just need pick a caliber and a matching mold.

fecmech, sure, use the outside 10. Looks like could be "in the running" with only 10.

Edit: So far you are in second place........:kidding:

By the way These groups have to be shot during the match, no digging out old targets.

I am thinking about setting up my old 22 rig again. So, if it gets put togehter before this weekend I may give it a try.

I went out today and shot 2 more groups with the 32-20, but no more joy than the target I posted. I also shot a teeny group with my browing 22 buckmark just for giggles. If that can do it, then why can't I do the same with the 32-20? Must be the jerk behind the trigger....

Just got back from shooting my hunting rig. Encore SS frame, 14" MGM SS Bbl chambered for 357 Maxi. and 2X7 scope. I was shooting 200358GC NEI boolit over 18.2 win 296. Would have done better if I maintained grip tension and didn't get that flyer (1.050" CTC). That's okay because tomorrow I'll be taking my 15" FULL BULL .300 Whisper Bbl.[smilie=w::violin:

Got to the range with the first cast to be shot from this gun. I got a nice group (for a shotgun) 8.25" x 5" I was using the Lee sks 155gr boolit(sized @.308) over 9.0gr reddot in fireformed 7br cases. POA was down on the #6 since it was adjusted for my hunting load. I will go to the range in a few minutes with new boolit.

Not bad for first try at least all were on paper.

Drug out my full bull Encore 300 Whisper. Loaded it with SAECO 311 165gr sized .309. I wrote on the target it was a NEI but I had another brain fart. Did a little better than yesterday. I had no interest in the WHisper until someone had a barrel at a price that I couldn't refuse. After loading for it I realized it was a fantastic platform for cast boolits.

Top target is .577" CTC and bottom is .655" CTC

There is the one hole group! Are they 10 shots?

What power? More details please.

Simply awesome.

10 shots each @50yds. Encore SS frame with 15" blued T/C custom shop 300 Whisper. 10X Burris scope. 8.8gr AA9 behind a 165 SAECO GC boolit Xlox dipped. I have had a couple of .445" grps @ 100yds with J-word boolits. But I gave them up for cast. Much more satisfying!

You can post for BOTH today. I already called the winner for May, but if you can beat that.....
