I am looking for a little help with my slugging. I slugged booth my 9mm and they came in at .356 and .355 what size mold should i buy? .356?b Also when i slugged my winchester 94 it slugged at .306, should i size @ .309 or .310. I bought some cast boolits and had them sized @ .309 and they seem to do fine. Now i am hooked on cast boolits (kind of like crack:drinks::drinks:) and want to start casting my own and want to get it right the first time. Also, any opions on tumble lubeing?

Rule of thumb is to size .001 to .002 over the groove diameter, no matter what.

have no experience w/tumble lube, but others who have say it works.

Hullo Parrott, Most 9mm boolit molds are advertised at .356, they will vary from that up to+-.002 usually on the + side.

As ECHO said, overbore size by .001-.002 works fine to help seal the bore, as you have seen with your 30/30, .309 . I like boolits .002-.003 larger myself, that is just my personal preference.

With this in mind, I would use a .357-.358 sizer for the 9mm's
As for the tumble lube it works fine, some people think it is to messy, other think it takes to long to dry. There are threads here on this subject with all the pro's and con's you care to read.
I like it myself, for the low velocity pistol loads . It will work on Mags and up to about 1400fps in my findings, after that I start to get leading.
I put mine in a Tupperware bowl, it doesn't take much ALOX, stir boolits around, take them out, let dry over night. Next evening I take a heavy duty freezer bag and put the boolits in it, shake a little talcum powder in , shake and walla no more sticky boolits. WFM.[smilie=1:
Good luck

I'd get a sizer +.002 if I could. I say this because most people I see using a mic tend to bear down too hard on the tool and the readings are a bit small. You .306 reading on the 94 tend to make me think this, that or the bore is heavily fouled.

I use tumble lube (Mule Snot) and if I lube in the morning I can load that after noon just by dusting the boolits with powered graphite like Motor Mica. Works good in many rifles up to 1400 fps or more.

Always uver slug size, wheather .001, .002, or .003 can only be found out by trial and and keeping good records for each particular rifle or pistol. As far as Lee liquid alox I found that with a nice smooth barrel I can push rifle loads up to about 1700 fps with no problems with pistol speed bullets it's perfect every time

That's true Bret, but they do make those supposedly idiot proof mics with the little rachet turner in the end. I'm not a real big advocate of calipers for precision measurement. Yeah, they can get close.

That or there is a bbl restriction at the stamp or threads. How did it feel when you slugged it? Were there tight and loose spots? Where were they at?
