Hello all. I just bought an Encore with a 12" 45/70 Barrel. It's got the standard walnut grip and forend on it. I am looking for suggestions for potential grip replacements (for maximum recoil absorption). I know that Thompson makes a rubber grip/forend that feels very nice, but I'm not sure about how well it handles recoil. Also, I have seen Pachmayr grips that are advertised as great at handling recoil. Any thoughts, experiences, or suggestions that you would like to share would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have no experience with the Pachmayrs, but others have found them to be great at reducing felt recoil; some haven't. I can tell you that the TC rubber grips, to me, are much worse with regards to recoil than the wood. I guess the wood fits my hand better, but the TC rubber grips are the worst for me. They sting my hand pretty bad, whereas the wood grips are very comfortable regardless of the caliber being shot. Mine wears walnut.
