I have sized lots of Lee 160 TL 7.62x 39 bullets to .309 and shot them in a bolt action 30-30 at subsonic velocities without checks. Works great. At the velocity and pressure of 16 grains of 2400 in the 7.62x39 I suspect that checks are needed.(BTW the more recent advice is to consider 15.5 grains as max in the x39- supposedly some recent lots of 2400 are a tad faster than the old Herc that the 16 grain load was developed with)

I've done well with 15 grains of 2400 under that GC'd boolit in that cartridge. I got about 1800fps & the action cycled normally on a Chinese SKS. A buddy with a Yugo SKS, said that this load didn't cycle his action, so he shut off his gas feed & shot them straight pull (the Yugos have a gas tube shut off of some sort built in that allows single shot use).

I loaded up some Lee tl312-160-2r's over 14.8 grains 2400 and they don't quite cycle the action on my 16"bbl sks paratrooper but they are extremely accurate. I'm going to 15.5 grains next.
