Went to a show in P cola last weekend. Found a 7mm & 8mm lee moulds. The question i have is can i pp a 286 dia boolit up to fit a 290 dia bbl? I have a f/n 7mm made in 1940 for columbia. The bbl slugs 285 groove & 290 bore. How many wraps & what size paper do i need? I know it has long throat & bbl will be on the short side but just want to shot the old girl. Mould drops 285 dia & 131 consistent for 10 boolits. BTW someone had suggested using a mouse pad to roll boolits on. I wanted to give pping a try, so had a piece of underlayment for a flooting floor in my shop. Worked very well. Wet patch used slick side and held casting while rolling. Boolits wrapped tight & dried evenly. Just a cheap way to do it. Thanks for all the great ideas & tips.

I would give them 2 wraps of 16#, lube and run through a .290 push through die and load.

"The bbl slugs 285 groove & 290 bore"

I think you got this backwards, should be .285 bore and .290 groove

Plus you should size to at least .001" over groove diameter (plus 1 on the arger dimension being the groove diameter).

If yo push your finished bullet through a .290 die you will end up with a .291/.2915 finish bullet because of paper springback.

I have found that a paper known as vellum works very well for rifle paper patching. It is probably the toughest paper I have ever used. It is available from certain stationary and hobby stores.

Mike, with your sizing die, I would go slowly.
Lap to .290, load 20 and give it a try. Remember, paper patching likes full tilt in the smaller calibers.
If it is too wild firing, lap it out a tad, a little at a time.
I found with my .30s, and .303, the more paper, the better the results.
Groove +at least .001.

I did get the bore/groove dia. backwords. I thought the paper would springback like pdawg shooter pointed out.
Didnt know about the speed thing like docone 31 pionted out.
Thanks to all for the info. So much to learn, so little time.

With Husein in office patching may become a necessity and not a hobbie before long!
