Hi there, new member here, been lurking for a while. Was wondering if someone could piont me to some good equipment and moulds to start casting for my handgun. It's a Ruger BH 357, 4-5/8 barrel, the bore slugged at .358 and the cyl. throughts at .359. Here in Canada we're only aloud to shoot paper so all I need is decent accuracy:Fire:

HI Remsoles, welcome to the board. I have several .357 moulds, and my guns all seem to like the Lyman 358429 the best of any of them. It is a little heavier than most of the others, in case you have to stop some really vicious paper.

RemSoles welcome good to see another Canuck find this site. It is great.
I have two moulds my 38 Specials and 357 Mags both like 158 GRN SWC and a 148 GRN RN.
Both are Lyman but I forget the numbers off the top of my head.

Ken.

It seems to me that .38's and .357's like heavier boolits, like 150+, and lighter ones aren't as tolerant.

And welcome to the best board on the net.

Welcome to the asylum...drag up a rock and make yourself at home.

My old flattop BH .357 Mag (also a 4 5/8") really likes the Lyman 358156. That boolit is a (nominal) 158 gr gas-check SWC. From my mould, cast from Lyman #2 alloy, finished boolits (lubed w/GC) run right at 162 gr. For plinkin' loads, I don't bother with the GC and have never noticed any increase in leading.

I agree with fourarmed. The Lyman 358429 is IMHO the best 38 caliber bullet ever designed. One day I might find something better but right now it is the bee's knees.

I've used the 358477, didn't like the factory recommended top punch as it deformed the bullet, but I believe this can be remedied by a Lyman 311 top punch when I resize... In any event, that bullet looked like crap, but shot GREAT!
I have the 358429 sitting here now. It came in a few days ago, looking forward to the pot getting hot and casting in a while. That one is a Keith style bullet, so my outlook for its performance is good.

Happy Shootin'! -Tom
