Hello all, I have in my posession an RCBS progressive press and I have NO IDEA what it is. Please Help!!!
It is a RCBS progressive with 4 stations not five. It also has "A-5" cast in the frame, and that is all I know. I am thinking about setting it up to do 38/357 if I can still get shell plates for it. thanks in advance for any help. Tom

Is it an addon system above the normal level? RCBS Piggyback , altho I thought these were
5 station.

Straight line case motion left to rt, curved handle on the rt, pwder measure in the
middle and case feeder on the left? Green Machine, I think this is a 4 station.

I thought the A5 was a single stage press, but not sure. This would be the case
if you have the Piggyback put on top of a single stg press.

Thanks for the reply's and I am too dumb to put pictures on here but I might have a shot SWMBO is home sick from nursing school tonight so maybe if I ask real nicely she might help me. On the other stuff it is an o frame and is not a piggyback 4 holes bored into the top of the press, bent handle on the right side as you look at it. There is a twisted rod that runs down throught the top pretty heavy duty looking press. On one side of the frame RCBS on the other A-5 I don't know but the ram lifts the whole shell plate up to the dies screwed in to the top of the press like a Dillon SBD. Help!!!

if it is not too old it could be the pro2000

You have an old A5 press (now called the Special 5), with the old piggy-back unit. The modern piggy-back units convert single stage presses to allow progressive reloading using the same 5 station shell plates as the RCBS Pro-2000; but prior to RCBS introducing the Pro-2000 there were piggy-back units that had 4 station shell plates; RCBS calls it the 4x4. You can still by these shell plates from RCBS here (https://shop.rcbs.com/WebConnect/MainServlet?storeId=webconnect&catalogId=webconnect&langId=en_US&screenlabel=index&action=CategoryDisplay&categoryId=C10J147&route=C10)

You have a RCBS 4x4. The early ones did not auto index, the later ones did. The twisted rod drives turning the shellplate.

I have one and they are a pretty good progressive, though I use mine as a semi-progressive. I feed it primed brass, and flare, charge, seat, and crimp on the press.

Parts etc are still available from RCBS. They probably have a manual on their website to if you don't have one.

I like mine, let me know if I can be of help.

Check the auction sites for shellplates - they are numbered the same as regular RCBS shell holders. Make sure you get the one for the auto, or else you will have to index manually. If the picture is not clear, ask - the two center rivets should be drilled and tapped on the auto ones.

Midway sells the shellplates also - at full price.

Go here:

http://www.rcbs.com/general/downloads.aspx

Look thru the manuals until you find what you have. The poster above
thinks it is a 4x4. Does it look like this? :-D If so, it is a 4x4, you can get
the manual at the above site.
